Created by perfumer Nathalie Lorson, Encre Noire has developed a distinctive position in modern masculine perfumery through an unusually focused treatment of vetyver. Its visual identity is equally significant: the black bottle draws inspiration from René Lalique's celebrated “Biches” inkwell of 1913, connecting contemporary fragrance design with the decorative-art heritage of the house. Lalique describes the composition as a modern classic, centered on the contrast between aromatic cypress, two expressions of vetyver and the enveloping warmth of cashmere wood and musk.

Encre Noire demonstrates something important about fragrance: artistic identity and price are not necessarily connected. Its construction is remarkably disciplined.
